Free Internet for All – Creating Alternatives to Zero Rating
Kurzthese
This session is going to address the most underlying issue regarding digitization in Africa: Access to the Internet. Data affordability is the main barrier for people using the Internet. Today, zero rating services are often marketed as the only way to provide free access to Internet services.
Beschreibung
The panel will not only debate the effects of zero rating and why alternatives are necessary to bridge the data divide, during the discussion different solutions for public access provision will be showcased.
The panelists will debate how grassroot organizations, open internet companies and telcos can work together to connect the unconnected and provide public access to the web? We will aim to discuss concrete solutions and ways ahead to create new alliances to work toward access for all.
