Jorge Appiah
CEO/Co-founder

George (Jorge) Appiah is a Technoprenuer and innovator with a background in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Renewable energy. He has a key interest in system and designing thinking coupling with appropriate technology. He specializes in accelerating the 4th industrial age technologies like Internet of Things, Drones, Augmented/Virtual reality, Blockchain etc in solving crucial challenges in Africa through Human capacity building. Jorge is driven by his passion for development and empowerment of youth.

He believes in creating platforms to help promote local innovations which tackle critical challenges in our communities and also support youth entrepreneurship. 


He is the Co-founder/CEO of Kumasi Hive; is a multi-space innovation place for rapid prototyping of ideas, budding local innovations, impact start-up support and promoting youth entrepreneurship as a way of addressing critical social economic and developmental challenges.  It provides affordable spaces including co-working spaces, Makerspace, Training space and event space to support start-ups and the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Kumasi. The Hive currently runs the only Hardware incubator program in the sub-region. 


Jorge is also the founder of Creativity Group (Cg), an interdisciplinary community of student innovators, makers, entrepreneurs and changemakers who are using innovation and technology as a tool, to solve problems in our communities and in Ghana for social interventions and sustainable development. 


He is also a World Economic Forum (WEF) Global Shaper, a member of IEEE since 2010, a member of International Design and Innovation Network (IDIN) of MIT D-Lab , a Research Fellow at The Energy Center- KNUST and the Executive Chairman of the Ghana Tech and Business Hub Network (TBHN) 


Jorge is also a Design Thinking practitioner, the lead for Kumasi Hive’s Design Lab and a member of both Design Thinking Ghana and UXPA Ghana. 


Jorge holds BSc Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree and MSc Renewable Energy Technologies, both from KNUST. He is also currently pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration, Edinburgh Business School.
