Short thesis

This workshop will be a general orientation workshop about Wikipedia - a free, collaborative, multilingual, online encyclopedia that can be read and edited freely by anyone in the world.

Description

Wikipedia is the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit with over 40 million free-to-access articles in over 300 languages. Articles are collaboratively created and edited by a global volunteer base.

This workshop will be a broad orientation to the wiki; the following will be discussed:

  • Introduction to Wikipedia
  • Five Pillars of Wikipedia
  • Anatomy of a Wikipedia article
  • Wikipedia policies and guidelines (Neutral point of view, Verifiability, Encyclopedic Writing, No original research, Editing guidelines, Notability guidelines, Conflict of Interest and Template use)
  • Wikipedia governance
  • Communities formed around Wikipedia
  • Getting started with editing
