Cumulatively, Simon has over a decade working in Ghana’s health delivery and health education sectors. He is a graduate of the University of Johannesburg. His educational journey towards graduate education started at the then Rural Health Training School which is now the College of Health and Wellbeing where he currently lectures. Simon became the first Ghanaian recipient of the Mandela Rhodes Scholarship in 2016 since the scholarship’s inception 15 years ago. Shortly afterwards, he was recognized by Barclays Africa’s funded Brightest Young Minds organization among Africa’s 100 changemakers and future leaders. In May 2017, Simon received the St. Gallen Wings of Excellence Award in Switzerland after a competitive selections exercise for over 1000 postgraduates across the globe in which his insightful essay towards the annual St Gallen Symposium was recognized. He has been named as one of St. Gallen’s Leaders of Tomorrow. Simon is also the founding executive director of the Peoples Foundation for Health and Education Development, a local NGO working on pro-poor education and healthcare interventions in the north of Ghana where he hails from. Drawing from deeply personal experiences working in the health sector in Ghana, Simon’s proposal to Echoing Green on solutions for blood service delivery in Ghana and of course, Africa, was shortlisted for funding but failed to survive the stiff competition to the finals for a USD50,000 potential funding.
