Angela Mensah-Poku

Angela Adwoa Amoh Nyantekyiwa Mensah-Poku is a change agent, global Business to Business senior leader, with an infectious leadership style. Her passion for ICT is reflected in her focus on change transformation and delivering results in Africa and in Europe. Over the past two decades, Angela has held numerous leadership roles within the ICT sector.

Born in Ho, Volta Region, Ghana, Angela was educated in the UK and travelled across Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, and North America before returning to Ghana in 2009. She has worked for various organizations including the House of Commons, BBC Parliamentary Channel. She worked with British Telecom in the UK, where she progressed from a graduate management trainee into Business Manager and Programme Management roles. She also worked with the CTO and CIO of British Telecom as Chief of Staff.

Angela was one of the original people involved in the migration from Ghana Telecom to Vodafone in 2009. In 2011, she was promoted by the CEO to step up as Head of Sales to accelerate enterprise revenues. Her success in this role resulted in a special assignment of Head of Fixed Services. The Chief Technology Officer and Chief Executive Officer tapped Angela to transform Vodafone Ghana’s largest business unit (over 300 world class engineers) in the fixed network, which she accomplished in just 1 year. Angela was Head of Corporate Sales for Ghana and Vodafone Global Enterprise (VGE) West Africa where she managed a sales team that generated 20% of Vodafone Ghana’s total annual revenue. In 2014 she was promoted to Head of Vodafone Business Solutions (covering sales, products, marketing, operations and commercial analytics) with a team of 170 people. In 2016, she was given an additional responsibility as the Managing Director of Vodafone Wholesale and a board member. Angela is also Vodafone Ghana’s representative for Ghana UK Chamber of Commerce.

Over the past 9 years, she has worked in every region in the country, gaining knowledge of the Ghana’s SME, banking, mining, and oil and gas industries, as well as key government agencies and NGOs. This background gives her a unique local and global perspective on the issues facing Ghana. Her passion for the economic growth of the country is grounded in her love for the transformational power of telecoms. Under her watch Vodafone Business Solutions (VBS) has won 4 Ghana Information Technology Awards for Best Business Services Company of the year and IOT Service Company of the year.

Angela is passionate about people, especially female excellence and is extensively involved in the mentoring of young graduates under the Vodafone Graduate Executive Programme and coaches them to unearth their highest potential. She is a mentor for bright but needy girls at the University of Education Winneba, and takes part in numerous talks about self-esteem and career progression for young girls across the country. Angela also supports and mentors Start-ups and Small Medium Enterprises to achieve their next level of success.

Known for her energy and straight-talking, she is also passionate about social change initiatives, particularly in Ghana. She has seen first-hand, the power of using ICT to spur cultural and economic change at the individual and community level.

Angela holds a Master’s Degree in Information Systems and Economics and a Bachelor’s Degree in Politics and Law. She is also an Alumni of the London Business School Executive Programme. She is passionate about reading, travelling, her family and is a lifelong supporter of Arsenal football club
