Beschreibung

During a panel on AFROfuturism: Imagining the Future of Black Identity held in New York, Afrofuturism was described as a black perspective on “the politics, aesthetics and cultural aspects” of science, science fiction and technology. The discussion focused around the African-American perspective of AFROfuturism.

The panel discussion AFROfuturism: An African History Of The Future aims to zoom in on most of the same issues, but from the African perspective. How can AFROfuturism be employed in the reimagining of possible African futures and in the renewal of creative processes currently being used?

"AFROfuturism envisions alternate realities beyond colonial histories and racialized processes of underdevelopment. AFROfuturism very often and unapologetically deploys traditions and cultural symbols that are distinctively “African” as it celebrates Black identity."

Spotlighting the African and struggles specific to the African, discussions will focus on how AFROfuturism could reclaim ownership over African identity through creative activism, political resistance, arts & culture.
