Beate Weides
Country Manager Ghana

I have been coordinating media development projects for Deutsche Welle Akademie in Ghana since 2014. Equipping journalists and citizen journalists with new skills they need in order to face the digital challenges is one of the main project objectives. Before working on these long term projects, I managed several smaller media projects in Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger and Tunisia. In 2001, I have become a trainer for journalistic skills at the training center of Deutsche Welle where I worked especially with journalists from West and North Africa. I loved to share my professional experiences as a radio journalist and online editor. But when I started to work as a freelancer with the German broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk in 1997, I remember we still had typewriters in the corners of our offices – in case the computers break down – and we used to investigate without being connected to the world via mobile phones. The Ghana team of DW Akademie will take part in re:publica Accra to kick-start our digital journalism training modules together with several multiplicators from the media industry and from journalism education institutions. The digital changes in our professional environment are challenging and fascinating at the same time and I am looking forward to hear what you think!
